Bumped into Alex (Schralph Macchio on the TGR forums) in the parking lot, and we skied/boarded together for the whole day. Super fun!
Ski Patrol was dropping charges all over the place; the Cirque ripped a big one and there were smaller releases all along the ridges. The snow was heavy on top, windbuffed, grippy, and fun. Super sketchy snowpack, though: upside down density snow and windslabs rested on two separate persistent weak layers. Geeky snow nerd stuff, I know. What this means in plain English is this:
An inbounds slide at Alpine Meadows caught a ski patroller, he has since passed away. And a boarder was caught and killed in an avalanche inbounds at Donner Ski Ranch. RIP. :(
