    Echo Summit, 1917-albert-budd-1917.jpg

I just saw this photo on facebook and thought folks here would be interested. The guy in the photo, and his friend rode their bikes from Sacramento to Echo Summit in 17 hours and 29 minutes. Their names were Albert Budd and Eugene Hepting. Hepting was the photographer, and the photo is from the Eldorado Trail facebook page.

I wonder what kind of tires they ran? (j/k)
Seriously, though - that's rad. I don't think I could do that today on a rigid mtn bike. Thanks for posting!

I think this cool on so many levels. Dirt and sand roads, probably rocky with stretches of sand, rock, and manure to dodge. On the positive side, not too many cars and the water was safe to drink. I wonder where they stayed overnight? I see a frame pump on one of the bikes, but not much other gear.

That's so cool. He looks like he was trying to pedal to the golf course and got lost.

So.... this Thursday marks the 100 year anniversary of this historic ride. On Friday, Oct. 20th, at least 8 people are meeting in downtown Sacramento to do the 2017 version of this ride. Most will take 2 or 3 days. If anyone else wants to join for all or part of it, the more the merrier! (Note that there is no official SAG, aid stations, shuttles and hand holding... just a route, some camaraderie and your sense of adventure).

Planned route to Echo Summit... still have to add route to The Beacon Bar & Grill: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/25447178

Plscott's route to the end (but minus the start): https://caltopo.com/m/0QM6

Putting the "E" in epic, nice job!!!!

Since I don't have a ride this big in my back anymore I decided to join for the final leg into Tahoe, parked up on Echo summit and rode down the pony express till I met up with Empty and his crew at Sierra at Tahoe. Here are a few pics I snapped on our way to Camp Richardson.
