    Downieville Gathering thread....6/23-24

Shit is happening even if FC isn't coming....The gist of it is we have almost(?) all of the Packsaddle campground booked ( don't know if there is room for you? There is...Just ask. ) and come Saturday night we party like it is 1999 and you drank way too much tequila too fast and now you have to race a 16" bike....There are no organized rides, book some shuttles ( Yuba! ) ride the Lost Sierra and have a ball! My little crew is on the 1130 Saturday and plan on doing BB the hardest way and self shuttling Mills at dawn Sunday.
    I'm the problem....

So here's the deal, I'll be coming up Friday night, camping in the Yuba lot, then joining the Yuba crew for Billys first shuttle Saturday morning, dawn patrol party run back into town for breakfast then at least a few of us are on the 11:30 up to the Saddle. 12:15 or so up top we will be heading out for a Big Boulder run, route tbd. We will have an early dinner at Feathers then up to camp in my truck to get the debauchery started.
Hopefully Saturday night we can get a plan together for another early start Sunday, an early brekky and over to Graeagle for a Mills self shuttle before we head back to our dreary lives.

Also if you haven't heard legendary 5th generation Yuba shuttle driver Billy Epps will be going for the record, driving 8 laps, sun up to sundown.

    From Yuba's Fbook....
Come join us this Saturday, June 23rd as Yuba driver Billy Epps seeks a new world record for Downieville Downhill Packer Saddle van shuttle runs in a single day. He's looking to shatter his old record with a total of 8 trips to the top with the dawn patrol van blasting off from the shop at 5:30am and the last leaving at 6pm. In an amazing act of kindness, he's also donating all of his wages and tips that day to the Sierra Frontier Medical Resources for continued funding of a full time paramedic in town - this is in addition to Yuba's annual donation to this fund. We encourage all riders and local businesses to join in, donate some dough and help support paramedic services in Downieville. Sign-up for the early and late shuttles which still have some slots open. And if you are on the final run, Billy will join you on his bike as he takes his victory celebration downhill run.

Kind of off topic, but do you know of volunteer opportunities in Downieville? I have experience working as an EMT in a busy 911 system and currently work as an RN in one of the busier trauma centers in the ER. Iíd be happy to lend a hand and volunteer one day/ride one day if the opportunity presented itself.

I didn't realize it until right now my B1KER Camp is up there riding on the 23rd as well. It's gonna be a packed day. Too bad we aren't staying in closer campgrounds. We are doing the same setup, get there Friday night, ride Saturday, get hammered, do some kind of hangover ride on Sunday.

I wish I had planned for this. I thought it was a bust and was cancelled. Would have been cool to finally get to ride with you guys. Or in the case of Robert, sit on the side of the trail all day fixing flats.

Alix, kiddo and myself are heading up Friday morning. Current plan is to bum space at camp... I'll have to figure out shuttles and stuff. I'm hoping I can get at least one DH run in before my shoulder decides to give up and call it quits.

No sir...it sounds like way too many people for me. I was just up there a week ago...we had six people; I thought that was too many...

We'll do another trip. We both missed this one cause we are weak. Have to make amends.

    jeebus. Still on that tune.

We've been doing the Downieville Gathering for a dozen years. Hangover is just an expression. It's all about beer and bikes. And whatever elixir folks share.
