    Downhill race w/o rear tire

Aaron Gwin lost his tire near the beginning of his downhill run. Riding on just the rim, with the tire dragging/flapping behind, he still did better than half the riders. Amazing:

78th and last of the finishers (1 DNF, 1 DSQ); I'm curious as to how you determine he still did better than half the riders?

His time would have put him 9th in the Women's class & 28th in Junior Men's class.

Regardless, it was impressive to make it down the majority of a WC DH course on just the rim!

It's funny how people get so picky about which is the best tire for different kinds of dirt...

I wouldn't be surprised to see a conversation about which tire would be best to have on (off) the rim in circumstances like this come out of this thread.

Which bare rim is the best for loose over hardpack with lots of rock gardens? Would the eventual shredding of a carbon rim provide more traction?

If you're going to have a tire come off and ride a WC DH course, you're going to want that tire to be an enduro-specific tire.

Great link - thanks for sharing!

All joking aside, when I watched his run, the 1st thing I thought was "I wonder what rims he's running - I want some!"

Lately I've been on a bit of a rim-destroying tear - and I ride just slightly less aggressively than Aaron Gwin.

Did you watch the video? Gwin got a flat and decided to keep riding. Riding on a flat is going to cause the tire to pop off when leaning the bike.
