Who's going? I'll be there doing the 8hr SS Solo as long as I'm not on-call. Anyone know if there's race day registration available?

I think we both know Shoelaces is not the only fast guy on a SS. Especially over 8 hrs

I'll be there pitting for Zon.

Co-ed 8 hour. Racing in memory of my Grandpa, as well as Mikaela Ubry Knapp.

Only 88 total people are registered thus far... it'll be a ghost town out on the course and nearly everyone/team will podium C'mon, people! The more the merrier... and it is all for a good cause! Get a buddy and do the 8 hour at least. Go solo 8 hrs and get in some solid training for an upcoming hundo... or the Downieville Classic.

What else is competing for your time, money, MTB fix and beer drinking on June 21?

    I'll be there...

Helping Jimmy put on an awesome event. Kinda hard to believe there is so little interest in such a "cool" event that benefits a great cause.

Maybe 8hr/24hr endurance events have run their course for now. Certainly 24's more so than 8's. I know I don't really enjoy riding the same loop over and over again (which is why I always do 2 person 8 hour)... but it's hard for me to pass on a race in my backyard that is for a great cause, and put on by a good dude. But I sign up for these races cause it is fun to see/compete/hang out with familiar faces from all over that I only see at MTB races, which is why I'm disappointed with the current registration numbers. Bike Monkey/Boggs has certainly done a good job getting the huge crowds for an 8 hour (at an arguably better venue)... maybe today's racers are only down for one 8 hour per year though.

But enduros, gravel grinders, CX and road crits seem to be blowing up among my friends that still ride bikes. The pendulum swings....

Expect around 9-10 miles and a little over 1000ft of vertical per loop. Of course the course gets tweaked every year. It's never exactly the same.

Up to 119 people now. Weather will be perfect. Still no plans this weekend? It's not too late to sign up.

    https://www.bikereg.com/coolest-8--2...against-cancer

8 hour solo and 24 hour solo/duo = suffering regardless of weather, venue, gears, no gears... dog bless 'em.

8 hour duo and 24 hour 4-5 person teams = fun

I'm looking forward to seeing MTBR friends there, and meeting new friends!

It is for a good cause if you are worried about $$ to race. I know personally that the battle against cancer is brutal and anything that can be done to help fight the battle is a worthy cause. This is money well spent and you will have a blast at the same time. And let me tell you, if riding through the photos at the Miracle Mile portion of the race doesn't choke you up I don't know what will. That is what it is all about. My daughters pic will be there this year.

Coolest 2014 was fun! Thanks to the high school 24 hour teams, attendance was respectable, but I sure missed seeing many of you out there. I'm not a loopty-loopty-loopty kinda guy, but that course is actually really fun, with just the right amount of everything thrown in.

The kick-off was as emotional as it gets, with MTBR's Zon receiving the Bryce Clark Courage Award for his daughter, Mikaela, who we all hoped would be there (again), but sadly succumbed to her battle with cancer last month. Zon pulled off 14 laps to win the solo 60+ men's category. He had no shortage of inspiration and I was honored to ride with him for a while during one of my laps.

I gave Zon's daughter's Memory Mile photo a tap on each of my 4 laps. It made whatever fatigue I was feeling disappear instantaneously.

All in all, a good day was had (for us 8 hour riders). A report from the 24 hour crew was one of our high school guys threw down the fastest lap of the whole 24 hours on his 7th and final lap (44:30!).

24 hour races may be unpopular these days, but don't mention that to those that battled and had a blast doing it! The biking part of these events is fun and hard, but the socializing and screwing around with your buddies all day/night is what makes them so much fun. It'll be interesting to see if they will continue to be offered. I hope they will.

    Coolest 8/24HR - Who's going???

Racers were greeted by this latex beauty out on the race course late at night. She moved around to random places throughout the night. I don't know who put it out there but I don't think that it's a big surprise that at race end she was in the pits of a 5 man team sponsored by a local brewery (and they had the beer consumption to fit that sponsorship).

I was up all night pitting for Zon. 14 hrs of sleep and I'm starting to feel normal again. I pity everybody that had to go to work today.

Haha... you must not have been there in 2009 (May 2nd). A friggin' legendary monsoon changed the face of Coolest forever!

But based on the popularity of this race with the high school teams that have made it the past 2 years, I'm going to lobby Jimmy to try and get it on the calendar May 30/31, 2015... a couple of weeks after State Championships.

That'll be the same date as the Lost & Found 100 mile Gravel Race next year....they already got the permits and booked the dates for next year. Just FYI.
