"Controlled" burn at Henry W Coe SP

If all goes well there'll be a prescribed burn in Henry W Coe SP tomorrow (Wed 15th) near the HQ at the end of E Dunne Ave.

Here's one of the perimeter fire lines we volunteers cleared last summer:

I thought I heard there is a die off of trees in that area. True?
This should be good for wildflowers next spring.

Yes the drought caused pretty bad mortality in the ponderosa pines due to increased bark beetle activity. All the living ponderosa pines 2' diameter and larger in the burn area were given special protection; we scraped fire lines around each one and also trimmed lower "fire ladder" limbs.

Just got word that due to forecast high winds tomorrow the the burn has been postponed 2 weeks.

If the coming rain causes grasses to sprout it'll be postponed a year.

All that prep work down the drain if that happens. Oh well...

My "tin foil hat" tells me that my Geocaches are intentionally getting torched...again! There can be no other purpose for a "controlled burn"! ;-)
