I'd like to give a shout out to my sponsor... Roadbikerview.commm!

These shots are from the great Carmen aka ibikergal. Thanks a ton. A lot of them were backlit and with tough lighting conditions. A little photochop though and they were good to go.

    CCCX DH #3

    4:24.- -

Did better than I thought I would, but not as good as I'd hoped.

I'd like to have shaved an extra 5-10 seconds off of my time. Then I'd have been really happy.

    Will post a picture later.
    Meh.

Wow, I don't look like I am having fun, do I?

Quick report: I sucked, pretty much (again). Note to self: just riding road bike in between races is not enough. Also eat better the day before.

It was weird, I passed a couple guys at the bottom at the beginning of the last lap. I basically rode the entire rest of the last lap with no one in sight, either in front or behind. I made the classic mistake of thinking "OK, I can take it a touch easy so I don't crash on the way down." Which of course almost killed me.

It was great to meet all you guys, though! And thanks for the socks,Francis. I am totally wearing them at the next race. Hopefully I won't let the brand down.

Francis, that's a pretty nice kit from the sponsors- it makes you look fast. how did those tires handle on that off camber stuff? I assume pretty well since you didn't go down and you posted a fast time without any gears. i was thinking about the course and you must have given up about a minute on the rolling fast downhill sections. i was in a huge gear for that part. i can't imagine being able to pedal fast enough on a single speed.

it was good to see/meet other mtbr folks like Datenschwanz, JeffH, Ibikergal, SashaX, Rumpfy (didn't get to meet him, but knew that was him on that old..err..vintage bike), and others.

well, i did learn something from the race on saturday- i need some faster tires for these races. 2.25 Wierwolf's are fun at downieville and skeggs, but not the preferred race tire. i'd like to think that a few adjustments would have shaved off that 1:20 between me and first place. maybe if i had a hard tail? yeah right, maybe if i didn't eat so much for lunch everyday :-)

    fun day!

It's good to meet you man. Those woolies will come in handy in SF. Just make sure you join us for some Skeggs rides.

You're representing mtbr as long as you're pedaling and loving it.

Lemme just say this. You would have gone way faster on my bike. That course was ideal for SS. It was really handy that I couldn't shift at the asphalt section. I had to crank, then I always got relief on the dirt climb.

For the descents, there was always someone crashed in front of me on the top section so I had to slow down anyway and go at a safe speed. Rigid fork and SS go hand in hand since you can't go fast enough to get in trouble with the fork on downhills.

Definitely get a fast tire for Sea Otter. Pre-ride next week yo.

You and me both! At least you can blame it on a blown fork and a heavy bike. I just plain got schooled...but it was fun and I can't wait until the next one!

I'd love to blame it on that...but I'm not sure that's a legit reason.

I did choose to ride a 15 year old bike.

I told you you were faster than me.

    Some highlights!!

    - JeffH continues to dominate his group. Last year, he couldn't break out of mid-pack beginner. This year, watchout!

    - Aussie Bob hasn't missed a race yet. His knees are starting to complain he said.

    - Dirt_Diggler had the second fastest time in sport. Dammm.

    - Last race, the singlespeed crushers (Michael and Erik) put 7 minutes on me! This race, just 2 minutes

    - DennistheMennis who won all his sport races to date, upgraded to expert. Gracious.

    - Sabine in Expert/Pro women cranked out 5 laps in style.

    - the winner of Pro Class, Corey Ward is Photo-John's half brother.

    - Mike Donahue, in expert singlespeed was in the lead pack of 5 geared expert/pros for a few laps.

    others?

yeah, that's me. i didn't realize my helmet also sits a little bit far back, leaving my big forehead and tiny frontal lobe exposed to the hazards. that's like a free lobotomy waiting to happe. man, i look like a four year old with his mickey mouse helmet placed on his head like a bonnet.

anyway, enough of that. who here raced tires that they liked on that course? i want something light and fast for sea otter.

Well I had a good race, I even went faster, my gps unit said a whole 0.6 mph faster average speed than my last race at Toro Park. I am using the tortoise and the hare series strategy or I am following Plim's slowmentum approach to racing. If I show up at all the races and finish, even though I am slow, after a quick calculation of the result I am currently in 3rd place overall in the points for beginners woman. It seems that some woman try the class once and never come back again, I just don't know Why!!

    Yesssss!

I railed the DH, but got spanked on the uphills. Either way it was a really fun time for first race of the year for me. I figured that I get to ride for free all the time, so the CCCX #5 was just a $30 group ride.
