    CCCX DH pics 1-31-2010

On the DL, so I figured I'd take some pics. Got to borrow my first Canon L lense. Bad idea, now I need to get one.

    Enjoy.

This guy missed the turn in a major way. Note wheel on left side...

No idea who this kid is, but his dad and I were hanging out at the same turn.

Talked to that dude on the way down. Conversation when something like this:

    Me: "Fireroad?"
Captain Taco: "Yeah, I can't believe I'm still alive!"

I know I'm new and all to this sport, but how do you mangle a wheel like that on a fireroad? I could see it happening on some sort of drop, but a fireroad? for real?

30mph on a rutty fireroad. One wrong move and who knows what could happen. I'd be happy to walk away with a taco on the front of my bike.

In this particular case, he told me he over baked a corner and hit a bush/tree thing.

That Fire road was fast , I hit 40.8mph on it with my GPS Garmin. I ran a 36tooth , should of run a 40 tooth.

Nice work! I get sketched out on fire road and kept brake checking when you'd get to those lips on the fire road where you couldn't see what was on the other side. I needed another practice run to get my brain in 'just let go' mentality.

With 40mph on the fire road, I bet you made good time. What was your course time?

3:20 , Ive been off the bike for several weeks and my legs were toast after 8-9 runs saturday. I wanted 3:16-19. The fireroad is wild but not much to it, spring out of the gate hit the first turn and sit down and spin like made and don't worry about anything on the road just hit all inside to outside and never even think about brakes, should brake ever til the first single track turn.

Yeah, I could've been faster on the fire road for sure. I finished with 3:44. Definitely lost some time by not going all out on the fire road as well as one of the near switchback turns on the singletrack and the s- turn at the end (WTH was up with that?). Still did better than I expected with only one practice run... and I did pass someone near the finish! CCCX DH is so fun... I can't wait for the next series.

Thanks for letting me use your lens. I knew I'd regret it. I never should have taken you up on it.

    Looks like fun!

I would have been there, but I was busy skating in (and winning) a hockey tourny in Marina. Seven 12 min games, 4v4 no subs.
