Bay Area to Vegas - best rides in central CA

Im heading to Las Vegas next week for some work and will be bringing my bike. I plan to ride Bootleg Canyon a couple times while I am in Vegas.

On the route home I was thinking of heading towards SLO / Paso Robles to see a friend. I am searching for some "cannot miss" riding spots in between say south of Big Sur and North of Bakersfield....? Anything good that way or just pin it home!?

I'd head straight to SLO from there (and do). Nice trails and very nice scenery at Montana de Oro and Cuesta Ridge. Tried the touted Kern County goods one year and wasn't impressed although the highest elevations weren't open. Have heard good things about the epic shuttle there, though, and scenery also unique.

Did you do the Cannell Plunge? I am thinking of that on way back as well...going to call Mountain & River for shuttle / pass info tomorrow.

One more vote for Cannel Plunge. It's said to be one if the top ten trails in the country.
After the ride, stop at Kern River Brewing and try a Just Outstanding IPA. I think you will agree that it really is Just Outstanding!!

Bootleg is excellent, although I've only done the XC trails (IMBA, Scout, Caldera, Lake)--all fun. And don't miss the jump/play area behind the bathrooms.

Cannel (rhymes with flannel, btw) is an epic ride if it's open on top (bring a jacket). I would guess that it's open based on this: Sierra Cam
