Auburn Oak Tree Super D cancelled

    From Jimmyboy himself:

All my events within the Auburn State Park have been canceled due to contact
problems and changes that have come up late in the game. The park is making
it harder and harder to put on any events. Some areas are being closed due
to what they over use and high inpact. The state park and some of the other
race directors are at odds as the ASRA has not paid there water bill and
there is no water at some of the areas we hold our events .This is one of
the reason we are having problems with the event contacts as they want us to
pay the high fee's but have no water for cross country or endurance events.I
am asking for them to cut the events fee's down as there are not holding up
to there end of the deal.
I have work for many years to put on good clean events for MTB riders. I
will be sending out full refunds and will let you know what day we will hold
the free Oak Tree Super D. Free shirts, and metals to each class.
This contact for this event was put in place in Jan of this year. I did not
    cancel the event they did.
I stand to about $3,000 that I have already put into this event ,But I
would still like to put on a free super D as the shirts amd award metals are
all ready here. I will e-mail each racers in the weeks to come on the
loction and time. Again ,I am very sorry as I have worked very hard at this
event. This is what happens when you stand up to the "man".

    Bummer.

Snarky comments that don't add value to the thread aside, Jimmy is one of the hardest working promoters out there and always puts on a first class event. It's a shame that this is tripping him up. It sounds like he's not the only one getting the cold shoulder and that has to have some real measurable impacts financially for the local community.

Could these dollar amounts of lost revenue quantified and would that information help move the powers that be to a more affable position?

I'm with kidwoo, Jimmy's emails are hard to read. /grammer b!tching

    Jimmy puts on great races!
I think if he puts on the free race he should put up a tip jar. I bet there are lots of racers out there that really value Jimmy's hard work and would be willing to part with a few bucks to encourage him and keep him in the game.
Take a look at and consider "liking" our VAR Facebook and VAR Instagram pages.

Come on guys, let up! Jimmy states regularly that he does not have the best online grammar,, cut him some slack and just translate his posts,, it's not that hard.

BTW,, as him being an ex Navy SEAL, I'm sure Jimmy knows how to listen to the man.

I'd like to respond to this comment with how I really feel but I won't....
A lot of us have great respect for Jim Northey and the the aforementioned comment is simply classless.

That's a real bummer too, in addition to the Olmstead Loop Challenge being cancelled. I couldn't find any info on the free super d he's talking about, would that be on the same day as this one was supposed to be? I think the tip jar is a great idea!

Don't you think you have stirred enough crap up about this??

Can't you read? Jimmy had a permit. ASRA pulled the rug out from under him. Cut him some slack. Jimmy is working his a$$ off trying to put together high quality race events.

    Jimmy...

I feuded with Jimmy here on the forum a few years back. I also slammed him for his bad grammer. Then I got to know him and see the fruits of his labors as a race promoter and promoter of MTB in general.

He has been doing this.... with ASRA and other agencies for years on behalf of the MTB community.

It's your right to bash him all you want but I suggest that you find the opportunity to meet him in person.

Tip # 2 - Don't give tinker jaurez a broken grand prize and claim it as New. Putting the ferrari in reverse didn't work for Ferris Bueller to take the miles off, so why would a drill to the speedo work on a scooter?

What are you talking about? Just making base-less accusations or do you have some sort of real proof of wrong doing on Jimmy's part

I defended your original comment about the "we'll see about it" attitude regarding this race a couple months ago. But now you have lost it. You are just being a total d!ck about things. Now you are just trying to be hurtful. Grow up. Have some class and dignity.
    Quit gloating.
You're right. Its not a big surprise that the race was canceled.
But you bad attitude is not helping. Jimmy puts his heart and soul into making these races happen. Comments like yours only discourage his efforts and those of other race promoters that might want to put on races in the area. If everybody had the 'it will never work' attitude like yours, we would never get any races.
Instead of focusing you energies on negative comments and internet bashing, how about spending some time writing letters to ASRA supporting the efforts of Jimmy and other event promoters. Do something helpful, instead of destructive.

Jimmy is a good promoter for the coolest 24, and he should just stick with that. As fars as the tinker comment do you real think I could make something like that?

    Then do something about it.

plan your own, once it is set and ready to roll...let us know.

    I'll attend.

And I promise I'll give you credit for what you did right...but I'll also be respectful enough to come to you individually (and in person) and tell you my personal thoughts about what my experience is...for what it is worth. I'd be interested to see if you have the character to put yourself out there to the public.

What a Fricken Drag! This course rocks up and down.Enough climbing to drop the pretenders and a super fast pedaling run down the culvert and confluence. We were up the Sunday getting our lines dialed in going a little to fast for an open course with hikers and xc guys going up. Still pulled times under 12 minutes from the green gate/ boulders. would have liked to see the time with a closed course and a shot of adrenaline!

Ok how about Hella The West? It was free and it was a super cool course. You showed up the first year and I give you props for that. But what about the second year?

I am convinced that most people would rather pay $40 to race TBF and have the chance to win a $40 WTB tire and a Schrader valve tube than do a free group ride on trails that they have never been on.

    I'm confused

Adamen this is you right....not SS34x18??

To your point, I gave you feedback here on the race to try to help have it have a positive impact for you for following events and the next year...because I enjoyed it..and really like the concept! I also gave you some feedback at the end of the race on the que sheet and where it got hazy in directions.

Last year had nothing to do with anything but life and managing all that goes with it. I was actually thinking about that loop the other day!

But the Hella The West brings up a good point...why do an underground series unless it's because you're not interested in going through all of the hoops necessary with the local and state government to get a permit, necessary insurance, etc. etc. etc.

And lets not go the profit route...because that's a joke...very very few if any folks make sustainable/liveable money promoting races when you consider true opportunity costs.

So in the big picture whether underground or permitted...events are promoted for the passion of the event/sport. So why insult someone who tries to navigate the government gauntlet....

PS, Adamen are you going to the Puff this year?

    sad...

For all of the smart asses delivering digs on grammar, etc... take the energy you are applying on the interwebs and actually do something positive for the local riding scene. Bad grammar and personal differences some of you have aside, Jimmy has done a great deal for all of us who enjoy having top shelf events in our back yard. Guy's having a rough patch beating his head against a beaurocratic wall on your behalf, pissing a lot of personal funds down the drain in the process. And yes there are probably plenty of grammar and spelling errors in my post, who gives a s**t

    Update

    Hey,
Check out this link and tell me if this will work for the Oak Tree Super D. I am going to have some Backwoods Super D races being the state Parks will not let us have any and I already have all the awards and t-shirts. This link will not be part of my Global site.
Let me know what you think ASAP.

    Wicked grammar mom

Its easy to grammer bash Jimmy on this internet forum. Your grammer feathers have been ruffled ? - Sounds like you had the wicked grammar mom growing up. (grammer POLICE )

Cut people some slack and didn't grammer mom say: If your not going to say something nice about someone, DON'T say it. Spare us your comments

Lets go past the grammer and what do you think of Jimmy events (not this one)

    Refund?????

I had already signed up for this race, but have not gotten any notification that a refund has been applied to my credit card. Also, my e-mail to the promoter inquiring about my refund has gone unanswered (for several weeks now). Anybody know what's going on with refunds?

I e-mailed Jimmy directly a few days ago and he said he would look into it and hit me back...so I'm sure he's aware of it and will be working it out shortly.
