I just rode first time yesterday (wed). It was spectacular! I burned through 2 clif bars and 80oz of water pretty fast. If you can ride 3.5 to 4 hrs, do the Trifecta. I was amazed how great the trails are there. Mostly SUPER SMOOTH and fast if someone is out in front of you keeping it safe to oncoming. One part down to confluence (?) has big jumps and berms that are really fun! Beware of dark tunnel, that was super creepy 1 st time as you cannot see ruts. Have fun, my legs are toast!

    Rad! Thanks for the reply!
Is it pretty easy to find all the trail heads for
    The trifecta?
    Thanks!

    Hey Mr. tppon,

Maps are your friend! That way you can share directions even when it's your first time to ride these trails. This can also be purchased at Auburn Bike Works on the corner of Elm and Hwy. 49 in Auburn.

    PARC - Books and Maps

Auburn State Recreation Area Topographic Trail Map
    Created by Sowarwe-Werher

The Auburn State Recreation Area Topographic Trail Map created by Sowarwe-Werher is a comprehensive guide to the hiking, bicycling, equestrian and whitewater routes found in the park. Each trail is numbered and a map key refers park visitors to the type of recreational use allowed by CA State Parks on the trail.

The map's topographic orientation provides valuable information on elevation changes. Map icons also identify facilities and services.

NOTE: The map does not include the recently opened China Bar Area.

    Have a great ride!

    Auburn 1st timer

Be aware that local weather forecasts for this weekend have temps over 100f. Auburn becomes an oven on hot days, with lots of sun exposure. If you are riding this weekend, start early.

I am not sure I could repeat that ride after only one time. If nobody can show you around, meet the map, maybe study it the night before?

Keep an eye out for on coming bike traffic and hikers on the connector trail. Lots of fast blind spots. Like others said its going to be HOT! take lots of water, probably more than you think you need.

Dang! 96 on Saturday. I'm running a wildest ride aid station. That's going to be miserable....worse I guess if you're riding.

To the OP. If you park at the top of Clementine, at the south end of Connector Trail, you can stash water in your car. Running Clementine, Connector, FHDL on a hot day will burn you through a 3L camelbak in no time. By parking at the top of clem your car is more in the middle of the route so you can refill. Make sure you keep you head up on Connector, lots of 2 way traffic.

Not to hijack the thread, but is there a parking fee now? I saw something on FATRAC that suggested it. Thanks

Most of the well know spots are fee. Self registration...$10 cash in an envelope.

There are some small less well known parking spots that are still free, but they're difficult to point a person too.

Something to keep in mind, the golden poppy pass will get no charge parking at the lots in Auburn, Salmon Falls, Granite Bay, Folsom Lake, etc. and is really worth the money if you get out often. $125 last year for a year pass and that was paid off in a month or so with all the parking I do at the lots. Best thing to to from what I have read is to buy it at the lot from the ranger as the money does not get filtered on the way to them but either way a pass is a great idea.

    I'm curious too.
Did he succumb to the heat and melt on the side of a hot climb?

    Hahaha!
    Thanks fr the concern guys,really!
O.k. Big thanks to everyone who shared
Some info, and thanks to the guys at auburn
Bike works! Great info, great shop, nice folk.
I parked at fuel break, did culvert and climbed
Short cut(?), rode connector out a ways and back
For a loop of culvert to clementine.
Left right at 1:00, not my best decision, but the heat
Turned out to be very manageable, and wow, you auburn
    Folk have something really good.
Happy people, beautiful scenery , quality trails.
    Dang.
    Early start for fhdl tomorrow!
Thanks again to everyone for their infos!

I hope you rode the full length of Connector. IMHO the south bound run on Connector between FHDL and the bench is the gold-standard for flowy trail riding.

I might see you out on FHDL tomorrow morning. XL black and chrome stumpy 29er fsr.
