Any good trails near Cazadero / Russain River Area?

    Hello All,

I've been reading the forms for a couple of months. This is my first time contributing.

Let me know if you know of any good trails in that area. I couldn't find anything.

The best trails in the general area are at Annadel in Santa Rosa, about 60% of which is currently closed. I don't think there are any great public trails near Cazadero, but the best way to find good places to ride is always to hook up with the locals. If you don't know anyone, start with the LBS.

Willow Creek is open to the public. You may enter off of Freeze Out Rd. The legal trails in the park are not super fun and the super fun trails which border the park are not legal, as they are private property.

Try to download a map before you go. The fire road climb in is a pain in the ass, but once you're up there, explore a bit. There are signs at the boundaries showing where Mendo. Forest Products property starts, so be respectful of that. When you're ready to head down, the Full Monty is the fun way down to the fire road/exit.

I went to Willow Creek and it is closed to bikes due to wet conditions. I'll try next time I'm in the area.

It used to be that willow creek was only open to the public after you do the land paths intro initiation meeting. Is that not the case anymore?

I've been a LandPaths member for several years. Three years ago, I tried to get the walking familiarization tour of Willow Creek and never received a response. Since then, all the times I've tried to verify one way or the other I'm always told that the park is now open, but not by LandPaths, always by locals and some folks on here.

Fully open was always the plan but even going to LandPaths site, it is not obvious that it's fully open.

I'm under the impression that it is now a state park. Open to the public.

Only the gate (code) was ever really private. People have been parking on freezeout and stepping over the gate for years.

Now if somehow we could get our hands on the land next door for our next park extension...

I see a map that still shows it as "permit required" despite being part of the Sonoma Coast State Park.

I'll contact the state to see if a permit is required. I'll let you know the answer.

FYI. I finally contacted the state. They said that this area at this moment is closed due to no funding.
