6th Annual 20/40 under from Kennedy Trailhead

America's Great Gothic holiday ... Halloween and Challenge season has arrived. See if you can make it to the oak tree in under 20 minutes and or to the intersection of Priest rock and Kennedy in under 40 minutes. 6th Annual 20/40 under from Kennedy Trailhead-fullsizer-6-.jpg oak tree in the middle of the trail is a bit over 1/2 way 2.17 ish miles of the 4.1 mile distance. 6th Annual 20/40 under from Kennedy Trailhead-img_1560.jpg Start here. Season is on now and ends 3/31/17. Good Luck! More info here: http://forums.mtbr.com/california-no...ad-937071.html Strava link here: https://www.strava.com/segments/618921 ... I'm not on Strava. Is there a better link for the course that includes the oak tree 1/2 way segment? Edit: Trailhead/Potty to oak tree here: https://www.strava.com/segments/807965 Jeeze Menso ... 14:10 to the tree! I just use a stopwatch.

I think the "Kennedy PT (Potty Tree)" Strava segment is good. The other one is poorly measured so it can be unreliable.

That said, I don't think I will ever make the 20. I hope to do the 40 again this year.

Thanks for the link man! I hear you about the sub 20 and I may not be able to do another one myself. I missed it by 33 seconds last year and didn't even do a sub 40. Gonna try again this year. ... https://www.strava.com/segments/807965 Note: Kennedy trail will be very slow for times with the wet conditions for a bit. It's really fast when its really dry.

Gave it a go today just to see where I am these days. I've been spending way too much time in the green zone (heart rate guys...stay focused) and it showed. 25.11 to the tree and 45:37 to the top. And that almost killed me. Sustaining time in the red zone is really hard and that's where you need to be on this challenge. For me anyhow. Didn't help that I was on flats, a few lbs of water and gear but I have my work cut out for me. Goal is under 40...20 is out of my league. I'll be out there every week seeing how I progress. ..gonna suck.

I need to get after this too ... maybe tomorrow

Squashyo and form49b have the right idea. Keep trying and you will get faster. I spent some time today working on my 20/40 bike and changed out a few things like gearing and the tires. Saved 13.4 ounces total. Squashyo and I talked about how nice it would be if he had a 20 pound Cross bike to race up Kennedy with. Who has the cx loaner?

I call my attempt today, Illusions of grandeur.

Slapped on my clipless pedals, pumped up tires to 40 psi, removed all my gear at trailhead start including water, powered down a Gu, and took off. Started well, felt strong and fast but I hit the last long sweeping left at around 20 mins. DID get 23.30 to the tree which knocked about 2 minutes off my last try but that sapped me and I bonked about 5 minutes after passing the tree. I only made it to the false top and I don't even know the time...it was slow though cause I was crawling/suffering by then.

I have a very long way to go if I have any chance of hitting a sub 40. I think my legs are just blown out from trying to hit 600k footies this year...maybe in January I can take a few more rest days and really get this going.

Gave it my Thursday effort but still not there. Still hurts for 40 plus minutes but at least I didn't bonk today. My progress:
    11/17: 23:07 and 42:40
    11/10: 23:30 and fail (DNF)
    11/3: 25:11 and 45:37

Bianchi Zurigo today. It's an aluminum cx frame circa 2012?
Even with my lightest wheels (ROL D'Huez) mounted tubeless, it's not crazy light.
Today with a bag, Rockform Iphone mounted on stem and lights front and rear, about 21lbs. 19 when I race cross.

My bike is the older frame. Non disc, black with Bianchi green panels. I test road the one in that review and it was a pig. The brakes were cable discs Heavy bike. I used old parts that a friend gave me and that I had laying around and then bought TRP mini V brakes.

    Cat 4 road
    Cat 2 cross and mtb
Raced motorcycles for years. Hills are more fun with a motor.
Road compact with 12/29 cassette was not fun today!

You'll get it. My fastest sub 40 was 37:15 ish with a 22.30 slow guy to the tree. Following Darcio up and I damn near died and almost messed up my no dab on the sister hills uninterrupted series. So maybe even a 24 ish at the tree can yield a sub 40 for starters. You crushed the combo one year ... remember ... I know you do! I'm set to go after either challenge thread with two bikes set up Dogmeat and one bike set up for 20/40.

Now that it's back to being fast on the Kennedy side ... let's jump both the 20/40 and the Dogmeat no dab deal eh? Both of the challenges can do this to you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehwSEVbBZl4 Dazed and confused is how I felt on Dogmeat yesterday!

Good luck on this! Let me know when you are coming to slay the challenge threads and Squashyo and I will come out to say hi man! 20/40 challenge thread may be a problem for me also this year as it was last year. 6th Annual 20/40 under from Kennedy Trailhead-img_1802.jpg Hope this is not my last victory pic for the challenge threads but who knows. Next is a sub 40 try prolly tamale. Ah the glory days!

I am thinking of doing the dogmeat again tomorrow. No way I can do both with the same bike though. I am not sure I could get a sub 20 right now but would be close I think. I will have to get the HT out and ready to go and give it a shot I guess.

Significant rain is here after tomorrow so 20/40 trail will be slow for a week or so. I'm gonna bundle up and try for a sub 40 tomorrow. Next week Dogmeat with the 1x10 Ibis then the Lynskey later in the season. Klein Rascal is done for the season.

Bump: ... One month to go!

3/31 is closing time on challenge season. I got what I had to have with the Dogmeat challenge but still looks like yz343 may be the only name on the 20/40 challenge this year. New lease on life for the Ti guy with another hollowtech crank and a new bottom bracket from Sloughs. Prolly sat in his shop 10 years waiting for me? 6th Annual 20/40 under from Kennedy Trailhead-fullsizer-60-.jpg Just got pinged ... Exit Bump ... Just saw pmarshall post

I just found a Race King Supersonic with plenty tread left. Going to stay on the 20/40 challenge now minus 270 grams of rear wheel rotational weight. Maybe I save at least a little dignity by pulling off a sub 40 before closing time. Oh almost forgot ... the jealous 20/40 calling pmarshall and the rest of ... never mind.

I will have to fix my rear hub on the hardtail to have any chance at all at a sub 20. I am sure I can do the sub 40 but the 20 might be a tall order. Maybe I will get this thing fixed and give it a go.

Could you pull it off with a lightweight dialed in 32x22 18 pounder? New crank, bottom bracket and slightly used race king. Let's go buddy? May try tamale ... 19t-22t available. Busted up Ti guy is smooth as silk right now!

Props go to yz343 the only one on my thread. "Crushed" the 20/40 combination and also made Dogmeat no dab challenge. Way to go tough guy! It's still on for at least a sub 40 ... you and me form49? Off season play anyone? Dogmeat and 20/40? "Johnny come lately" thread?

I got it in just before the 3 months of non stop rain.
    Is this beer worthy?

I spent a bunch of money on beer last year and they sat at my place so I let LP drink some and gave the rest to another 20/40 guy cragnshag? to give away on a Coe ride. How bout a free beverage card for Peet's coffee Los Gatos? I still have it in my wallet.

Well, I don't drink beer. Judging by our 20/40 times ... beer trumps coffee!
