Mountain Biking.....Cheaper than a mistress.
24HOA Monterey. What a cool event! I've done it for 5 years. 10-man for a couple of years then 5-man teams of late. This year though, I wasn't going to make it because of a busy May cycling schedule and a growing yesdear list.
The stars aligned though and I was able to leave my kids at a party in Salinas and spend a few hours at Laguna Seca. I did one lap and hung out with the gang. It's so good to see old friends again meet a few new ones.
- I'm not sick of Ogle yet... even though I was with him 8 days in Colorado last week. Josh is the life of the party and I think he's just planning to go on road trips all summer long.
- Fast Eddy is awesome. He ran the show like a pro and was never seen without a beer.
- Moschika, Joe Steel, Joseph, JRM, Mike, Dan, DMFT, Jay, Captain Kana, Bruce... it's awesome to see you guys.
- Cosentino was in bad shape with a useless shoulder, riding solo singlespeed. But still smiling as always though.
- Roger was doing solo singlespeed and looking pretty serious. Hope your epic turned out ok bud
-Weir and team wtb... 41 minute lap. Is that all you got??
Sorry I had to bolt. I was actually pretty weak and slept about 14 hours Saturday night. Good to see you all. Stories??

A great big thanks to a team full of great people... Ed, Josh, Francois, Moschika, Joe Steel, Joseph, DMFT, Jay, Captain Kana ....of the MTBR Norcal Team.
Francois....Thanks for being our sponser and turning one HOT lap.
Josh - Sorry about your back, but you did still turn one good lap.....and let's not forget your cooking for the team.......killer fajitas, tacos, and breatkfast. You da man!
Ed - Captain, team mate and cheerleader. You pulled it all together and gave me a chance to ride. Thanks! You woke me up at 2:30am and had me convinced that it was my turn....it wasn't even remotely close to my lap time
Last, but not least....Thanks to Pam for supporting us and volunteering at the event!
What a hoot! I've never raced with lights....or at 3am. Ed stuck the baton in my pocket and I just stood there waiting for our rider to return (which, of course, he already had). I was in such a fog that I couldn't remember what our team number was at the checkpoints....or that the number was even on the front of the bike.
Hopefully, I'll get a chance to ride with all of you soon....and in next years' 24HOA.
p.s. The Mafia groups were great camping neighbors. Everyone shared and offered food and cooking utensils.
- Getting Francois and Josh to race a hotlap each for us.
- Never missed a transition.
- Tons-o-fun without a gallon of beer each.
- Cleaned the whole course, including Hurl Hill for the first time in 1:04.
Lowlights
- Getting Joseph da trog out of bed 10 minutes before his 2am lap. Sorry.
- Me and velophoto losing the baton for a lap or so. Duh.
- 5:30 laptime after 3:30 bedtime. Ouch.
- Lost about two minutes at my 5:30 transition checking in, and dropping my light and sweatshirt. Minor.
- Didn't ever get my camera out. Weak.
1 lap: Francois and Josh
2 laps: Me, DMFT and Moschika
3 laps: velophoto, Joseph da trog, Blue Shorts, Capt Kana and Joe Steel
---
23 laps; good enough for sixth
If I can stay in this shape, Josh can get his back in shape, and we can get some dirt miles under velophoto's belt, we can do 25 laps next time.

Goes to Josh Saturday morning..."ill bet eds in his hotel room bed hungover"..
Thanks for the photos and the cheers. I thought that might have been you by the stairs. Sorry I didn't say HI at the time, as I was a little preoccupied avoiding collisons w/ fellow riders, hehehe.
It looks like Francois got a pic of me as well in the trasnision tent (blue bandana on) with a fellow rider/friend Jim (camo jersey) checking in, http://mtbr.com/author/photos/24hoa/IMG_2540.jpg His team stayed in the camp site next to us. Anyway, once i recover from my five laps on my single speed, I'll check in with you an see about hookin up a ride. Take care,
