2012 Superbowl morning ride - Sunday, Feb 5

The first monster event of the year is here and it is the annual Mount Hamilton Superbowl ride.

The idea is to ride the big climb on Superbowl Sunday morning so we can indulge later with some food and drink.

Meeting time is 8:30 on Sunday, Feb 5.

Meeting Place is Penitencia Creek Park lot on Berryessa Road.

Ride is up Mt. Hamilton and back down, Distance is 50 miles and elevation is 5000 feet. Riding is from 9am to 1pm. The game starts at 3:30.

Advanced option: Race up for KOM

Beginner option: turn around whenever you want and head down. Or park at Grant Ranch and start from there so you experience the summit.

Tandem, recumbent, electric, mountain bikes allowed: yes.


Required: Bring three of your favorite beers to share. Bring food for a a potluck after the ride.

Required: Bring a designated driver if you are drinking.

Option: Bring a huge TV so we can hang out and watch the game there.

Wildcard: Rain or 49ers making it in does NOT cancel.

As long as Snowjnky shows, does it matter if anyone else does? The answer is no. He is all encompassing. Only show up for this ride if you want to catch a glimpse of the man, the myth, a legend in his own mind, SNOWJNKY! I just took this thread up a notch or two. Motorbacon, yes you can come over and ride to the start with me. I know you were too shy to ask me or Chris but we will make an exception this one time to been seen with you in public. As long as you don't try and prove how great you are and try and one up Snowjnky. It can't be done without serious consequences. You would be doomed for certain failure! If I take off and start pedaling really quickly, it is probably because you were creeping me out and I didn't have the heart to just say it to your face. I just ride away and hope you don't get your feelings too hurt.

I would say that don't don't ride there unless you're a crusher and know what you're doing on Hamilton. This will cause you much pain and become anti-social and not party in the end. Cause you'll be in lycra and have a long ride home ahead of you.

This is all about getting together and hanging out. We can climb that silly hill any day if you're really in to roadie riding.

Yeah but with Mountain Bikers. We talk to each other, some wear baggies, drink beer, ride side by side, complain that we don't have disc brakes and talk about how this is the only road ride we do every year.

It is gatherings like this that make living in SLO feel like we are redheaded stepchildren. Sure we have great weather....college girls...small town atmosphere....High Street Deli (best sandwiches...EVER)...and plenty of trails and new ones on the way. But there is no Turkey Ride...no TNGR....and no Superbowl beerfest ride..even if it is on a road bike.

BTW i don't think I saw a pliny on the table...people holding out? To good to share?

There are also the funny curved bar bikes with skinny knobbies that some times show up.

But i gotta say thats a pretty accurate assessment of the BS that happens up the hill.

There is no Pliny to be found. My finger got tired dialing for Pliny.

On the bright side, all beer is 20% off at Whole Foods on Jan. 27.

Yes, it's that thing we all do but do not talk about.

It's best as a road ride since we get the other website folks to join in and realize how to have a good time. Also, early Feb road conditions are more predictable than trail conditions.
