2012 was a great bike year for me. I was very lucky to start and finish the year off with new bike builds. My custom Potts dream bike went on to the 2012 Handmade Bike Show, and won the Best Titanium Construction award. Just last month, I really couldn't pass up the deals from the Santa Cruz parking lot sale, so now I finally get to add that carbon TRc to the stable.
Epic bike trips was another recurring theme in 2012. I was fortunate enough to experience some of the most amazing mtb vacations ever. Week long road trips highlighting Ashland, Bend, and Whistler were incredible, and reminded me to savor every moment with friends and really just enjoy life to its fullest.
I also felt like I came back a little stronger after my shoulder surgery at the end of 2011. The GG2MB and MBTB Big Basin rides are two of the biggest rides I usually do. But then I also surprised myself by knocking out some serious miles on some other huge rides.
32 miles, 6,700 ft. at Henry Coe
25 miles, 5,800 ft. at Skeggs
40 miles, 8.800 ft. at Demo
By far, all personal bests at 3 of my favorite spots in the Bay Area. Now looking forward to setting some new goals for 2013!
Raced cyclocross! Not as much as I'd like... but got out there a bit.
In General didn't get in as much riding as Id have liked, but I was able to make it to most of the TNGR rides! that's my big accomplishment this year. It ended up being a huge stress release for me to be able to see all you guys up there, every Thursday for end of the work week festivities and de-stressing time while riding bikes and then loitering in the parking lot drinking tasty beer and trading lies for a couple hours.
Couple more to add:
Chasing (and not catching) jdubs in Downieville on a hardtail.
Meeting a ton of awesome people!
Meeting those awesome people on awesome bike rides.
Having time to go do demo not just once, but three times! (I suck at getting out)
Here is to 2013 being even better! with more riding in new places!
Gonna do some endurance racing, maybe... More CX racing... Might even buy one of those boingy bikes.
Worst of times:
Coming up on three months out of 2012 being unable to ride due to injury. Going to continue at least into January 2013 as well, dammit.
East Bay Regional Park District and the State Parks undergo Master and Guiding Plan Reviews. They both have worked to create trails administrative processes which are more streamlined and less apt to be shanghaied by anti's with technical blockades. This s a recognition of mtb's growing place in society, it's value, and it's future.

Aw man, sorry to hear it's taking so long to heal. On the bright side, your drinking arm is still good.

Yeah. 2012 was a good beer year indeed.
Perhaps I will get to ride and drink with you more than once in 2013???
not MTBR but a damn good video...a damn good year it was but it ain't over yet. I challenge evryone who reads this to do something amazing in the next 9 days!
It was a big stats wise but still a disappointing year. I ended up riding more that 2K miles than my previous best for the total of 6,700mi/835,000ft, but short of 1M feet I have planned for this year. I rode in Australia (flat), New Zealand (not flat), France, and Switzerland, but mostly on my road bike. Next year I hope to ride in Italy and Austria besides spending more time on my MTB. Have a great New Year!!!!!!
After a crappy riding year in 2011, I managed to get back in the saddle more often in 2012. It involved lots of early morning short road rides and quite a few rides in the Sierra. Managed to ride with good friends as well.
Now, I need to do even more of the above in 2013. Got a few trails I haven't explored yet around Truckee.
Faster is not always better, but it's always more fun
