    xtr pad alignment

    lil help,

I have a set of xtr V brakes and this weekend had to replace a tire and when I put things back together the brake pad was rubbing the tire. Is there a trick to adjust the positioning to these. I have the pad positioned as far as it can go in the adjusting slot but am still way off. I just can't imagine what happened here it's not as if the pad is worn in such a way that this s how it was before the new tire.

    thanks

    Try this,

Loosen the 5mm allen bolts on each side of the brakes, this loosens the entire pad system up. Squeeze the brake lever gently and while you are doing that position the pads where you want them against the rim. When you get them like you want them squeeze the level more firmly and retighten the allen bolts. They should be in place.
What may have happened is that as your pads wore thin if you adjusted your brakes it changed the geometry of how the pads line up with the rim. Then when you put in new thicker pads it threw the whole thing out of alignment.

    Thanks uofabill,

I will give this a try. It's just seems odd because I didn't get new pads I simply replace the tire.

Sounds like something isn't seat properly?

Are you sure your wheel is seated all the way into your dropouts? Pretty often when I mount a wheel I find that I don't have the axle fully seated all the way into the dropouts. I can usually tell by looking at how my tire is lined up or not in the frame.
