    xt shifter/brake combo caliper compatibility?

just saw a craigslist listing, and the guy had a set of XT shifter/brake levers for sale. Do these work with other brake calipers? Specifically, Hayes Mags? If they do, how hard would it be to swap the levers on hydraulic brakes?

    thanks

I am going to assume you confirmed they are for Hydraulic Brakes? if they are should be as simple as switching the lines over and bleeding the brakes.

the shimano levers will work with shimano hydros, no others are recommended (although i read someone tried matching them with maguras since both brand use mineral oil)

Is it difficult to bleed the brakes?

Shimano uses Mineral oil. Hayes uses DOT fluid. The seals will not react well with the other fluid. No go.
