    XT Brake set up--handlebar cramp...

With the shorter lever on the new XT brakes, I am having trouble setting up my bars, expecially on my left hand. I am running 2010 XT Shifters and the Reverb seat post, and these are crammed between my grips and the brakes which is making the shifters hit the outside of my thumbs when the brake is in the proper location for 1-finger braking. The older, longer brake levers allowed all the components to be about 1/2" further out which kept it from rubbing.

I see that there is the new "i-Spec" shifters but I had just got these shifters and don't want to have to drop more coin in getting those so they can be attached to the brake lever. Is there anyway to possibly convert the shifters to attach to the brakes or have any of you had a creative way to correct this problem? I am debating dremmeling my shifters to remove some length on the paddles as my last resort...

I had the same problem. Put the brake between the grip and the shifter.

For some people and some setups, I'm sure the short levers are fantastic. But for me, it was ultimately one of he deal breakers on the new shimano line.

I moved them outside--it is acceptable. Not preferred, but definitely better than inboard. I can't think of any other way than to use their I-Spec system which I am not going to do until I build another steed...
