    Why is magura Blood BLUE?

I ordered a 16 oz bottle of magura blood. I absent mindedly put it aside for when I need to bleed again. I was tidying the bench when I spotted the clear side gauge that it wasn't pink in there. Blood has switched from pink to blue. Is it interchangeable? Do I have to drain out the old pink? It's been a while since first grade, do pink and blue make violet?

Magura switched to the Royal Blue oil around 2002.
As far as I know the change was made for 2 reasons:
    1. Royal Blue doesn't firm up the lever action like the pink at cold temp. The old fluid led to sluggish lever action when temps dipped below 30 and the Blue feel as good at 15 degrees as it does at 90.
    2. The Blue doesn't heat up as quickly thus preventing lever pump.

I can attest to the Blue doing both of the above as claimed.

And, yes. Mixing the two makes violet. Don't worry about getting all the old stuff out. Just bleed it.

It is said that royalities (kings, queens and all the others) have the blood blue. That's why "Magura Royal Blood" is blue.

    Happy riding.
When I was a kid, I used to pray every night for a new bicycle. Then I realized that the Lord, in his wisdom, didn't work that way. So I just stole one and asked him to forgive me.
