    When & who to bleed?

I bought my 29er (GF Cobia) last October and have ridden it for about 2 months and for the entire season this year, probably until the end of November.

The brakes are the hydraulic Promax Hornet, when should the fluid be changed and is this something I should attempt to do myself or just have the LBS take care of it for me ?

Wait it out...but consider opening the reservoir and topping up the fluid if it needs it.

Exactly. Why mess with something that is working well?

Why bother? If not done properly, "topping up" can do more harm then good (e.g., overfilling the system).

Where can I get a list of the symptoms associated with mus-behaving disk brakes? I was hoping this thread was going to include some symptoms...I'm new to hydraulics so I want to see if I have the symptoms or if something else weird is going on or if the brakes just suck.

    Thanks.

A better approach is to list what's going on and we can be more helpful.

I spoke with my LBS and the owner said if you are not having any problems at all with your brakes you should still have your fluid changed after 2 seasons. We live in the north wast so the winter is about 5 months of down time.

Yeah, I agree... Just like your vehicles brake fluid.... every two years. Your brakes will still work if you dont but you may experience increased levels of brake fade. It's not hard to do yourself just a little messy and time consuming. You need a kit to do it which will probably consist of generic plastic syringes with tubing and adapters to screw into your caliper and master cylinder.
    Killing it with close inspection.
