    When to change mineral oil

    Hi

I have a Giant Alias 08. I've let the bike stand for about 2 years before I started biking.

How do I know when its time to change mineral oil?

There is no need to change the oil just for the sake of changing the oil. If you need to bleed the brakes, then do that. Otherwise don't bother.

So it isn't like a car that needs to be changed every 2 years?

If they are working well, there is no need to change the oil.

I used a set of shimano mineral oil brakes for 7-8 years without ever changing the oil. They still perform flawlessly. You will feel mushiness in your lever when it it time to change the oil.
Grit, spit, and a whole lot of duct tape!

My lever does feel mushy compared to other brake levers. But I think thats because the are different models.
