    What's this XTR tool?

This came with a new bike with XTR brakes. What is it?

That's a bleed adapter. I'm not exactly sure how to use it (I have older Avid brakes), but that's what it is.

I have a couple sets of XT brakes, and I've shortened the hoses and bled them. I don't see this tool anywhere in the instructions for bleeding either XT or XTR brakes. There's a funnel-type thing that screws into the reservoir, and a hose that you connect to the caliper bleed screw, but I'm not sure what you do with this thing.

I did a little more digging. It looks like this piece attaches to the caliper on one side and the tubing that runs to the bleed bag on the other. http://media.canyon.com/download/man..._BR_985_EN.pdf (Step 4 under "When using the bleed screw")

Yes, apparently the yellow piece can be used in place of the normal bleed screw/nipple when bleeding the brake. Then you can install the little metal screw in place of the bleed screw. I don't see the advantage of this, other than maybe saving a couple of grams. With the normal bleed screw you can close it while bleeding to prevent air from getting in. With this other method it seems like air could get in before you install the metal screw.
