What is an upgrade from M485

I'm having a problem with a bike shop. I purchased a Scott Aspect 10. It had M485 brakes which had issues and I know this is a brake forum but it also has Rock Shox Toras which were leaking. I know the brakes had a recall and others had problems with the shocks. is After the bike being in the shop for 6 weeks now they have told me they are upgrading the brakes to Deore and they are changing the shocks as the repair job is still leaking. My question is how do I know it is an upgrade? I don't want to pick it up and find I have been ripped off. I am already totally P'O at this shop in Toronto. I just want to have so info when I go to pick it up. Thanks very much

Deore is an upgrade. m485 is the lowest hydro brake on the totem pole.

Shimano brought out a replacement for the M485, the M486 so this would be a direct replacement.
Moving to Deore (M535) would be an upgrade. These use the same brake pads as SLX/Saint/XT/XTR models which makes getting replacements easier than the M485/486s which use resin pads.
