    BR-M785 is the brake caliper which hasn't changed.

    BL-M785-B is the new brake lever that comes with the BR-M785 brake.

    The old BL-M785 lever has I-Spec, the new BL-M785-B lever has I-Spec B type.

    It is. BL is black, left lever, BR is black rear caliper, etc.

    Rubbish.

    BR = Brake
    BL = Brake Lever
    M = Mountain Component
    T = Trekking Component
    785 = Model
    B = I-Spec B Type

    Color and orientation isn't included in the model codes.

    Thanks for the correction--that's what I get for drawing conclusions from insufficient data!

    So is the only difference whether there is I-Spec or I-Spec B type?

    Meaning, if I don't use the I-Spec shifters and have separate shifter level and brake levers I may as well buy the BR-m785? I have the older shimano XT 775 shifters.
