Used XTR 985 Race or New SLX

Currently I have the 975 XTR and I really like the feel of the newer brakes. I found a great deal on some used XTR 985s ($200) great condition. Or should I go for some brand new SLX, Deore, other, keep my current brakes?

Are the 988 trails much better than the 985?

I can only speak from the experience of the 2012 XTR 988's. I've had a pair on my FS bike for about a year now and love them. I'm currently on the hunt for some XTR race brakes for my hardtail.

Do you think the Servo wave is a good enough feature that I should skip on the 985?

True one finger braking that stops my 30lb 29er leaving me with plenty of control. I wouldn't trade them for anything else.

I prefer the power of the servo wave. I voted other because xt785 can be had so cheap

It should be noted that I am not a weight weenie, and I ride a little bit of everything.

I can't speak for the XTRs but I had SLXs on my last bike. My new bike came with XTs and I couldn't tell the difference. With icetech rotors and pads you cannot go wrong with SLX.

If you're not a weight weenie then get the XT's and spend the extra dough somewhere else. I have XT's on a different bike with Ice-Tech rotors. No complaints.

I couldnt find XTs for less than 200 a pair anywhere. So i got the XTRs for $200. Pretty excited to try them out. If I dont like them, I can always sell for a profit.
