Tried to change from 6" to 7" Rotors, but....

I've been running Avid mechanicals with 6" rotors front and rear on my FXR with a Marathon 120. I just upgraded to an AM1 (awesome fork) and figured I could use a little more brake power - so I bought 7" rotors and adaptors. I mounted the new rotor on the front wheel (a CK Disgotech) and the new caliper on the AM 1 - but I coule barely get the wheel in the drop outs as the rotor was hitting the inside of the caliper body (crotch area, for lack of better term)

I unscrewed the bolts almost all the way and found that if the calipers were held about 1/4" away from adaptors, the rotor seemed to fit. So, the adaptors, though they state right on them that they are for 185mm rotors, appear to be wrong.... Unless I'm missing something?

I put the 6 inch kit back on, and it works fine, thus ruling our any changes with the new fork.

Any tips on this set up?

    Much appreciated....

Is it a FRONT 185mm mount? Is it installed in the proper direction? The front and rear mounts are different. There should be an "F" on the mount and the arrow points in the direction of rotation.

There are NO 6" or 7" Avid rotors or mounts.
The trouble with common sense is it is no longer common

I somehow managed to invert the adaptor (probably cuz I was working on an inverted bike).

My 7.28346456692" brakes are working fine.

    Update on the 7.28346456692" Rotors

I had no idea switching from 6-7" rotors - oh sorry Shiggy, 7.28346456692" rotors, would make such a difference!

These things will absolutely throw you off the bike if you use anything more than a gingerly applied index finger. I'm thinking I need to move the XTR levers leverage adjust to a lower level...

With brakes like this, why do we need hydro's??
