Tektro mineral oil in shimano brakes

Has anyone else done this? My LBS assured me the oil was the same as shimano but ever since the bleed, I've noticed the oil seems to expand when hot. What I mean is, I can feel the levers moving away from the bar on long downhills while riding the brakes.

Which shimano brakes? I have been using Automotive transmission fluid in my Deore 525s since 2004 with no bleeds or expansion issues even during races.

Xt 785's. They specify mineral oil. Wouldnt transmission fluid destroy the seals?

DO NOT run ATF in your brakes, no reason on earth to experiment with it.

If your brakes don't feel right take them back to the shop and explain the problem. What you're describing can only be caused by expanding fluid so the brake fluid is most likely to blame. However if you are dragging the brakes for long periods the reservoir can't except the expanded fluid and deal with the problem. It could also be that the system is over filled and there's not room for the fluid as it expands. Either way it's on your shop to take care of the problem.

Thanks for the advice on trans oil. That wasn't something I seriously considered.

I am my own shop, which is why I asked the question.

I'll have to reread the bleed instructions but I don't recall any step in the processs where I could limit/reduce the volume of fluid in the system. Wouldn't doing so introduce air into the system?
