SRAM 9.0 disc brakes: the same/as good as the older 4-piston XT brakes?

    Hi,

I've come across a pair of the circa-2003 SRAM 9.0 disc brakes. I know they use DOT fluid, unlike the XTs, but are they just as good in every other aspect? I have little experience with the ?SRAMs/XTs, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

I believe that they were made by Grimeca for SRAM. The Grimeca System 8's sucked so my impression is the SRAM's will be similiar.

As lebikerboy said; 2003 SRAM 9.0 hydraulic disk brakes are made by Bassano Grimeca, so actually you can read reviews about Grimeca System 8, but there is a lot of review about SRAM 9.0 also. Links worth checking out:

Yup. The SRAM brake is pretty much just a rebadged Grimeca. I've heard mostly good things about it though.

The 4 piston Shimanos were a sweet brake... there is no comparison to the old SRAM. That said the new SRAM stuff is better then the 4 pot Shimano XTs.

4 pot Shimano XTs had slight tolerance issues with the pistons and bores, Shimano even admitted it. This lead to sticky pistons, and you could never really get them to not drag. That said, performance was great. Great modulation and stopping power.

I have the Avid Juicy 7s. Awesome brakes. I think they're even better than the 4 pots, and I really love that little knob.
