    shims = little washers?

    I just picked up a set of Shimano deore M555 brakes and they did not come with any shims (or mounting instructions) to use when mounting the brakes to the frame and fork. I found this installation sheet that refers to the shims:

    Are the shims just little washers?

    They are, yes. Here are the Hope sizes. You can get them from your LBS or even a hardware store, but bear in mind that ((sometimes) cheaper hardware store one's may not be consistent in their size.

    True, and hardware store washers are much thicker than shims.
