    Shimano XT or Formula

I'm getting really tired of my avids rubbing my pads constantly so I thought its time for new brakes.

I ride everything from XC to all mountain do I want something with good power and modulation and good adjustability. Also I don't want to have to deal with the rotor rubbing the pads.

I've heard the new shimano brakes to be great. One of my friend has the formulas and said they just re did the brakes so the pads sit further away from the pads??? I don't know if this is true or not. Which brake do you think would be better for my needs?

So many threads are comparing brand x y or z to the Shimano XT. XT really seems to be the one all the others are compared to right now.

That said, I love my shimanos - great brakes

Lot of V's threads. Check them out.
You also just described all the problems with the Formulas. They rub, makes noises and don't clear the disc very well. Not everyone has these problems mind you, but they come up constantly on these boards. XT's are pretty solid. I go Hope brakes as they are the best, but also the most expensive.

My formula brakes have been stellar. I would buy them again.

I don't think you could go wrong with either. I've had 2 sets of R1's and (once the initial wear in was done) they've been faultless.
I also hear great things about XT, but I've not had a set since the very first model. That said, I'd rate them as being the most friendly based on some close friends who both have them on their bikes.

I also have a bike coming with XT's so I'll be able to see for myself soon.
