    shimano brake squeal... please help!

I just picked up a new bike on the cheap for riding round the yard.
It came equipped with Shimano Deore M525 hydraulic discs front and rear. While they have decent stopping power the squeal like crazy! I mean these things howl. in fact if I pull in the lever half way I can ride indefinitely making the worst noise possible!

It seems like the pads have plenty of life left and everything seems tight. not sure what the cause is, maybe contaminated pads or rotors? maybe they're just crappy brakes?\
anyway, hopefully someone has found the solution!
    thanks

those brakes are good.. a bit heavy, but good... check the pads for glazing... run them over sand paper in an "8" pattern and try to bed them in again... also clean the rotors with alcohol and check that the caliper is centered over the rotor...

    thanks for the ideas.
    I'll try them tonight.
as for the weight... it's not an issue.
this bike is about a 35 lbs hardtail made for riding ladders and wierd stunts in my yard.
maybe even jumping off the picnic table, who knows!

As Crisillo mentioned, clean the brake system and see if that makes a difference (I think it should). Do note that all disc brakes squeal when they are wet, and there is nothing much that can be done about it!

I agree, they all squeal, I've had my share of disc brakes

this is no normal squeal though. almost as if pulling in the lever activates some radio-active, super charged weasel that begins to raise hell!

I'll clean everytihing up and post an update in a day or two.
    Thanks for the help

    Problem solved!

Last night I scrubbed down the rotors with isopropyl alcohol then worked on the pads. the pads were shiny with some sort of gunk. I worked on these with the alcohol until all the crud was gone then gave them a super light sanding with 100 grit sand paper. so far the noise is gone. granted I just rode down the street a ways but in the past I could produce the noise in about 5 feet.

    Thanks for the suggestions!
