    Rotors with cutouts

Is it true that rotors with any kind of drilling or cutout wear pads out alarmingly faster?

    Wear out pads faster? Probably.

Wear out pads alarmingly faster? Most likely not.

Thing is, those cutouts/holes are not there necessarily to make the rotor lighter. They are there to provide a place for water to escape when conditions are wet.

I wouldn't worry too much. If it really concerns you carry a spare set of pads. They're light, relatively cheap these days, and for most brands of callipers not too hard to change out while on a ride.

The gaps also scrape glaze off the pads and provide cooling for the rotor.
