I'm in the middle of replacing the brake cables on Buddy's road bike. They are nasty. He used it with a trainer and a lot of things siezed up a bit - cable would not move through the housing, the ferules were stuck really bad onto the frame, etc.
I've got it cleaned up, have a new cable in place, but now the adjustable cam that allows you to loosen the brakes and remove the wheel is not working. When I move the lever, the bolt that holds the cable in place moves along with it. Should that whole mechanism be taken apart and cleaned? How easy is that, or is there another solution? Thanks.
fyi, they're older Shimano Ultegra's. Probably 8 years or so old.
