Hi,

I have a Schwinn mtn bike with rear bolt holes for a rear basket rack....

I went through tons of different websites looking at rear disc brake adapters but none of them give any dimensions where i can confirm the correct adapter.

im not up to par on all the ISO, 51mm, etc, etc terminology that's used out there.

thanks in advance for any help...

the holes measure about 26,5mm apart - center to center.

heres a pic:

ya im aware of that...rack/fender mounts...

I have a spare set of disc wheels, so that's not an issue. i have spare calipers and all so im left down to just the rear adaptation issue.

Those two holes however seem like prime real estate to have a mount fab'd up....I guess from all the sites i came across and all the different types i saw i would find one that would work it just threw me off that none of the sites had dimensions or application charts, etc...

Reason - this is the wifes bike, she loves it, doesnt want new, but said she wants disc..being the mod man that i am, i accept the challenge, so im gonna work it just cause...fun stuff why not.

fronts taken care of already, i found i only needed for the front the fork mount iso adapter style, and i have a few of those from multiple disc brake calipers i have purchased in the past.

so, its about garage time and having fun....

While I agree with what the others have said in terms of it not being worth it to try and convert a non-disc brake frame to accept a disc brake in the rear, I've used the A2Z adapter that Cobba referenced in the above post in the past with some success. IMHO you really need your frame to be a "perfect storm" for the A2Z to work without some tweaking. I've also seen posts where guys have fab'd up their own adapter based on the A2Z design.

There is another thread or two floating around on these boards on the same basic topic. I posted a picture of my setup in one of those threads. Do a search for "A2Z" and maybe you'll get lucky.

$175 - https://2btherapy.com/bikes/brake-therapy-conversion-kit
A cheaper version of that: https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-MTB-Bicycle-Bike-Rear-Disc-Brake-Adapter-Kit-145mm-Red-/360476005650

The following adapter could possibly work.
With it you might be able to use one of your existing holes but you'd have to drill another hole in the dropout to get the correct placement, you might even have to drill two new holes to get it to work.

There's a couple of home made adapters on the following thread.

but said she wants disc
Tell her she has a 26" disc rotor on the bike now that the tire is attached to.

Mullet style:

ya, im familiar with "mullet style".....bleh, i didnt know there was that name for it till just recently....

I have been running mullet style on my old school Litespeed mtn bike for some time now. I really think the front disc, rear V is a sweet combination....

I do like the GT zaskar type mount you linked....im attaching it for future reference.....that style is more what im after - however utilizing the current mount holes i have.....

Look like I will be running the bike over to machine shop for a custom part fab. (im in aerospace industry)
