Rear brake just not right, cant get a good lever feel.

This is my first hydro brake bike ever, so I am new to them but I just cant seem to get that nice beef, strong feel at the lever like I had on my mech disc brake. I shouldnt say I cant, I can by adjusting the knob on the lever but it then causes drag on the rear wheel. I can't seem to find a happy medium. Any suggestions? I have Elixer 7SL's.

    * not sure if it makes a diff but my front brake is amazing. great, strong feel never had a problem with the front.

The most obvious thing I check when this occurs is does the caliper line up with the rotor perfectly? if there is a slight angle in leads to spongy feeling brakes. The old 'squeezing the lever and tightening the caliper bolts' is commonly a cause of this.

Otherwise - are the pads worn in properly and worn evenly?

I'd be pretty shocked if the pads were worn in proper, or evenly. I guess I like to use the rear brake cause the pads seem pretty worn down already and I've only had the bike out in the trails for 3 months or so

BigGK, get some new pads, give 'er a bleed and as Uphill=sad says, make sure your pads are hitting the rotor evenly. Those things together should definitely take care of the feeling you're getting.

I have noticed that a sticky piston will also cause a weird or spongy feel at the lever.
