    Question on disc brakes

I just picked up a '05 Redline Monocog and would like to upgrade to disc brakes. Since this is my first SS I'm trying to keep the cost down while I determine if this SS thing is for me. On that note I was thinking about the Shimano Deore Mechanicals (complete set on sale at Nashbar for $120) or the possibility of upgrading the brakeset on my Jekyll (XT Hydros maybe) and moving the hayes hydros over to the Monocog.

Is the Deore Mechanical a decent brake set?
What about Hydro line guides (I assume the Redline frame can't run hydro lines without them)? Are they a good option?

I fully expect to get "buy Avid Mechanicals" but I rather not fork out more money than I have too.

    Thoughts????

    Thanks in advance......

    Deore mechanicals

I believe there are a few versions of the Deore mechanical discs. From the research I did before buying a set, it seems to be the BR-M515 LA (LA standing for "long arm", referencing the arm that pulls to engage the caliper) is probably the best of the Deore mechanicals. I bought them online from this ebay vendor for $103.00 including shipping.

So far, I'm very happy with their performance. I hope this helps.

Get the Deores... there are some better prices. I think wheelworld.com has some.

I rate the Deores 515-LA just a step behind the Avids.... heavy and overbuilt and not so powerful but it has a sweet modulation. Throw in there a set of koolstops pads and you can get bet wet performance out of them.
