    Older XT775 Four Pot

Are these overkill for strictly XC use? Are adapters for a post mount fork still available?

You mean the 755? Adapters are still available.

Post mount forks will require a rotor upsize from 160mm. There are 170mm rotors and adapters, but 180mm is much easier to come by.

Yep, and an upsize on the rotor would be fine with me.

Well, there are lighter options out there, but these brakes modulate well and have plenty of power.
