Older BB7s require a special tool to disassemble??

I've got a set of BB7s that I purchased in 2005 or so. They are on my backup bike (which just became my backup bike after buying a new bike) and I'm rebuilding the whole bike.

I'm rebuilding the BB7s and see that the caliper was, at that time, a one piece caliper and not to be disassembled. The instruction say that I remove the inner parts using a special tool. Ugh.

I have some some searching and can't find an Avid brake removing tool anywhere. Anyone know if this tool is indeed mandatory for disassembling the brakes and, if it is, where I can get one? Any other options?

Thanks. I was searching for the actual tool name (MTD-1) and didn't get any results.
