    Noob question

    I'm new to the sport and I'm curious as to the difference between mechanical and hydraulic disc brakes are.

    Mechanical uses a cable to actuate the brake caliper, and hydraulic uses fluid (like your car) to actuate the caliper. Some ppl like mechanical for their simplicity, but hydraulic usually have greater stopping power.

    Don't be it's one of the most common question. In general both offer the same stopping power, but hydro required much less finger input. A lot has to do with your situation and budget if you ride most on fireroad there's very little difference between the 2, but if you do more demanding descend you may need a more reliable Hydro.
