    Making the best of BB5's

So I bought a used 2011 Hardrock 29er Sport to get back into some singletrack riding. Overall, pretty happy with the bike for my current skill level. BUT, the brakes are not the most confidence inspiring.

While I would love to upgrade to some nice hydro's that's just not in the budget. Recommendation on some pad upgrades? Can brake levers have any increase in leverage? I could really use some adjustable reach on the levers... I keep hitting the levers on my fingers. Suggestions?

zero compression housing is probably the best upgrade you can make for a cable based brake. Something like the yokozuna or the Jaqwire ripcord would be money well spent. I've been really happy with the couple sets of swiss stop brake pads I've used, lots of bite and good durablity.

If your hitting the levers on your fingers, its highly likely you just need to have them adjusted. And yes, +1 on the housing, if the ones you have are old. If you are not familar with bike maintenance you may want to let a bike shop adjust your brakes and maybe install some new housing.
