How to retrofit old brakes on a new frame?

I recently bought a Forge Sawback 5xx with Tektro discs. Problem is, the rear caliper prevents me from attaching a rack which forms the base of my child carrier (Topeak "Baby Sitter" model). I tried just taking off the rear caliper but the problem with that, of course, is that it's not very safe to ride with just a front brake, especially with a 30# kid on the back of the bike.
Here's a photo of the top of the seat stays. There is a hole drilled in the aluminum there, maybe that could be used to mount a brake caliper?

I asked the mechanic at the LBS if it would be possible to retrofit cantilever brakes but he called my frame "disc-specific" and said it was impossible. So basically I'm looking for a second opinion. Is there any hope for me being able to use my child carrier and have rear brakes on this bike? Any ideas would be appreciated.

It's hard to tell from the photo but I think that your wheel rims are disc specific ( no flat surface for brake shoes to contact)

That hole is for mounting a fender not a brake, but it might be possible to attach a V-brake with one of these:

    or these V-Brake Mounts:

if you put v-brakes on you'll need rims that are made for v-brakes

Thanks for the replies! The rack that cobba linked to is designed specifically for my child carrier. Just ordered it from Amazon for $49.92 with free shipping!
