I just bought a set of aftermarket lever blades and was wondering how to install these things. I've already screwed the adjustment screw all the way in so the lever can be pulled forward. How do I take the pivot pin thing out? I'm not sure if I should hammer it out because I've been known to screw up majorly. Oh yeah, these are the HFX-Mags (black flip flop).
Nick, check out Hayes website, they have an area that you can look that stuff up. I hope this helps. If not post back to me and I'll have an answer for you. I also run Hayes on my hardtail.
Well, I just used a hammer and a small flat head screwdriver to pound the pin out. Honestly, I've worked on bikes for years and have assembled everything without much problems but this was the toughest thing to do yet! After scratching everything up (luckily the underside), the pin finally came out. Then it was equally painful to hammer the pin back in with the new lever blades. So far the pin isn't all the way in but far enough to hold the lever in place. NEVER AGAIN!....unless you know of an easier way. Thanks.
The replacement handles are probably model specific. I replaced my stock Hayes with some Dangerboys. Didn't realize untill after the install that Dangerboys will come as Hayes 9, Mag or otherwise. Are you putting a Mag aftermarket into a Nine by any chance? Something to check for anyways. Good luck.
Which version should I go for to replace my levers on my Hayes HFX Comp Disc brakes?
