Homemade Floating brakes....
Anyone has some??? Post your pics if any.
A question for the brake-heads.
Where has to be located the IC of a floating brake set-up?? Watching the Foes inferno, I realized that this is in a point far behind the bike. I think it's for making the brake to give a very small amount of "brake-jack" and counteract the monopivot's tendency to compress the suspension.
Is my asumption above correct??? Am I too far off??
I'm thinking about making a homemade floating brake and I have some idea, but I haven't seen one from close and ignore the "tricks" behind it.
What else is needed besides a clamp, the spheric ends rod and the obvious floating caliper mount??
Many thanks to you all!!!!
Floating brakes are so simple in concept and implementation that I cannot believe the bike mfgs don't make them standard.
I bike long tyme.
In dealing with Brian from Brake Therapy getting my custom floater made for my Foes FXR, the point he drove home was that the caliper mount needs to be residing at around 11:00 when viewed from the left side of the bike with no load on the rear suspension. I have a photo of my FXR in a post I put in the "Custom Builders" forum a couple months back. Should still be in there somewhere. The front mounting point as I understood it is not near as critical as the angle of the caliper mount in relationship to the rotor. I know because I originally wanted a much lower front mounting point but decided against it due to clearance issues with the rear triangle. He said either frontal mounting point would work as well as the other. I opted to go high. Good luck.
