So I need some advice. I am building up a new 29er and am having a problem with the front brake. The fork is a Fox F29 with post mounts, brake is a Hope Mono Mini IS mount caliper, rotor is 180mm. Obviously I need an adapter of some kind. So I looked around and found a Shimano adapter that sounded like exactly what I needed and ordered one. The Shimano P/N is SM-MA-F180S/P. So I mounted the adpter to the fork and the caliper to the adapter and everything looked good until I put a wheel in. Seems like the rotor is not going into the caliper enough, and only half of the pads are touching the rotor. Looks like the caliper needs to be closer to the rotor. Any help would be appreciated! I can post some pictures tomorrow if it would help.
So your original caliper is for a 180mm rotor? It has a '3' stamped on it?
The Hope IS-to-PM adaptor (link) requires that you go up 20mm in rotor size; so the Shimano adaptor that you have would require a No.5 Mono Mini caliper, which would usually fit a 160mm front rotor, to work with a 180mm front rotor. I don't know how compatible the Shimano adaptor is with the Hope caliper.

Thanks for the reply! I didn't know there are different calipers for different rotor sizes, I thought you just used a different adapter! Anyway, I believe my caliper is for a 160mm rotor, I will have to check what number is stamped on it tonight.
So if I understand this correctly, If I have a '5' caliper (originally for a 160 rotor), I can use the adapter you linked to above to make my 160mm caliper work with a 180mm rotor.
And if I have a '3' caliper (originally for a 180 rotor), the above adapter would work on my fork with a 200mm rotor.
If I have a '3' caliper, is there any way to use it with a PM fork and a 180mm rotor?

Yes, I am using a Mono Mini on the rear as well with a 160mm rotor. Frame has IS mounts, so no adapter required. Already mounted and ready to go. BTW, frame is an On One Ti Inbred.

PS- It seems that adapter is not so easy to find in the US. I am going to make sure about what caliper I have tonight and then order the correct adapter.
I just thought, as a long-shot, that if you'd been using a 140mm rear rotor you could have just switched the calipers and retained a 180mm front (when you used the rear caliper with a +20mm adaptor on the front). You'd still have needed to buy another rotor (160mm for the rear), but at least you would have kept the same size at the front. You can disregard all of that, though, because it won't work with what you have.
So I checked out my calipers last night, and they are '3', so originally for 180 front and 160 rear.
So they way I see it I have 3 options:
1: Get a 203mm rotor for the front.
2: Get a Shimano adapter that is supposed to work with a PM fork and IS caliper but for 160mm rotor (the one I currently have is for 180). I don't know if this has been tested before, but I took a quick measurement and it looks like it should work. I did a quick search and only found the adapter at Universal Cycles, and they are out of stock.
3: I think I may go this route, as I would not have to buy anything. My other bike (a SS 29er) has a set of newer post mount Mono Mini brakes installed. SO, I was thinking of swapping the brakes. The SS has a rigid fork with IS mounts. So the front IS Mono Mini should mount without an adapter to that fork with a 180mm rotor, and the rear IS should also mount to the IS frame with a 160mm rotor without an adapter. Then for the PM brakes, the front should mount to the PM fork without an adapter, and the rear PM will mount to the rear IS with the same adaper that is on there now. I hope that makes sense! The only question would be if the PM front would work without an adapter on the PM fox fork. Are the PM calipers also 160 and 180 specific (it is currently setup with a 180mm rotor)? I quess worst case I would need a PM to PM +20mm adapter.
