    Hayes Stroker Trail

Anyone know what the procedure woukl be to change a Hayes Stroker Trail brake from DOT 4 to DOT 5.1?

Check this one out just add in, out with the old in with the new, you will see a change in color as the new fluid comes out.

Ok, thanks. I'll give the bleeding, with a change in fluid a go.

What would changing fluids from DOT 4 to DOT 5.1 do?

You just push fluid all the way through. Push all the old stuff out. The system will only perform as well as the lowest performance fluid in it. There are fluids such as ATE Super Blue that make it easier to see the new stuff coming out.

Some DOT 5.1 fluids have a lower viscosity and a higher boiling point. However, there are some DOT 5.1 fluids with a higher boiling point than DOT 4 (Motul RBF600).

RE: Change Dot 4 to Dot 5.1

According to Magazine test repoorts 5.1 takes a higher temp before expansion and it helps modulation. But, I have one bike with Dot 4 and another with Dot 5.1, I wnt to stanardize my fluids...Before I do somthing dumb, and my Dot 4 bike needs bleeding.

Re: Dot 4 and Dot 5.1

In changing from Dot 4 to Dot 5.1 the problems would be either incompatible chemical mixture that would coagulate or not be compatible with the seals. THATS what I am trying to find out.

You wont have a problem just make sure the fluid coming out at the finish is all 5.1. Simple no air to bleed just out with the old in with the new, it's called a fluid flush.

Ok, thanks. I've waited long enough. I am going to flush the brakes with 5.1.

    Thanks Again

Let us know how it works out for you. I'm interested to see if this can be done.
