    Hayes Question

I have a set of Hayes HFX Comp with the G1 type caliper. I have to shorten the rear cable. The compression sleeve is supposed to be silver(alum) and not gold. My LBS gave me a gold one when I asked for the one specifically for the this set. Hayes says I "could" use the gold one. The one I bought from the LBS is beveled at both ends. The one on the hose has a flat end on one side. Is there any difference in sleeves or shape on the end. Hayes says the gold is softer. Does it matter or am I making too much out of this ? Hayes says to use only their sleeves .Thanks!
