    Hayes Mag Olive Nightmare

I had to shorten the lines on my Hayes Mags for a new frame. I went to a high end bike shop in town (Pasadena) to get a new olive for the job they gave me an olive that was brass and tapered on both sides and a separate barb. When I cut the line I found that the olive was conical (tapered one side) and aluminum. I went back to the bike shop and they said the one they gave me should work. The other bike shops wanted to sell me a new hose kit for $38.00. Will the double tapered brass olive work?

If you do have the Mag brake yes, you need the aluminum compression bushing. There should not be a hose insert(barb). The hose will press onto the end of the aluminum cartridge. Sound like the "olive" they gave you is from some other brake company.

Thanks Randy. I thought that was the case. Now I just have to find one.
