    Hayes HFX-9 problem...

Hello all, as I am putting my bike back together after I got my frame powder coated, I ran into some problems with my hayes. I played around with the brakes earlier before by squeezing the level w/o any rotor inside. So now the pads are so closed together, I can't get the rotor back in. Can i just ply it apart with a flat head to spread it back open?

Yep. Use a flat head screwdriver so that you can get the rotor back in.

After doing this, it may be the case that one pad / piston will have moved more than the other and the pads will no longer be centered over the rotor. If this is the case, it's probably best to remove the pads and push the pistons all the way back into their bores using a 10mm box end wrench. (Be careful not to bend the center pin when doing this.)
