Has the 2013 SRAM XX Brakes Improved?

I know the Magnesium-caliper XX(2009-2012) was a terrible brakeset. Has SRAM made improvements going back to an alloy caliper? Has anyone tried the 2013s? Are they even as good as the 2010 Elixir R?

I had a set of 2011 XX World Cup brakes on my Epic and had repeated problems with them going soft. Eventually my LBS warrantied them and SRAM replaced them with 2013 model. They are a slightly better, but still seem to get mushy after a while. I have a set of Elixir CR Mags on my other bike and they are worlds better. I haven't bled them in the 4-5 years I've owned them and they are as firm as the day I installed them. Not sure why the XX brakes can't function the same way.

I think in the name of overall lightness, SRAM compromised a lot of materials science, to earn that weight-weenie distinction.
